ABOUT JUG AND KEEPING APACE

JUG

Everyone in the military seems to have a nickname. Mine is Jug. It is not from the bottle, as you might first think. If you want to know why, go to the left column of my HOME PAGE, click on JUG'S JOURNAL, then click on (LIFE) NICKNAMES.

BACKGROUND

After serving as a naval aviator in WWII, an airborne air controller in the Korean War, and a Navy Public Affairs Officer from 1955-1968, during the Cold War and Vietnam era, I retired to begin a civilian career in sales, public relations, writing, publication, and active civic volunteerism.

FAMILY

Wife Bonnie and I married in July 1944, at Corpus Christi TX - on the same day I received my Navy commission and “Wings of Gold.”

We have a daughter, two sons, five grandsons, and many memories of life full of enjoyment of people, places and things. It has been a busy and highly eventful experience that taught us many lessons in the art of living.

We love travel and have visited and dwelt in numerous places. To give one definition of the word “challenge”, we have moved 66 times during our 62 years of married life (as of 2006). Yes, there could be more moves in the future — possibly one or two — but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

KEEPING APACE

In 1988, I created Keeping Apace as a printed newsletter for the military association APA, and converted it to an Internet website in 1999.

In later years, APA became a “caretaker” organization that no longer solicited new members. Rapid attrition eventually made it economically unfeasible for APA to sponsor the website.

Thus, as its originator, I took over KEEPING APACE as my personal website and changed it from .org to a .com status. However, I still respond to any remaining APA members who contact me, and assist them if possible.

MY CONCEPTS

Whether you are active military, reserve, retired, veteran, military family member, or are merely interested in military news, facts, features and memorabilia - I hope you will enjoy this Website and visit frequently.

My intent is to provide a broad avenue of information to help you keep apace with military life, and life in general.

I strongly support whatever is good for our active, retired and veteran military personnel and their dependents.

I believe in and support high morality, high ethical standards, eliminating filth and violence from movies, TV, and the Internet, and other old-fashioned principles of our culture that are fast becoming eroded by lack of use, lack of knowledge, and subtle change by the so-called “politically correct” Liberals.

I vote for the candidates I consider to be be best for our national good - and it is obvious that I am NOT of the LIBERAL political persuasion. Few, of us are totally free of political predjuice, and I am no exception. However, I try to refrain from overdoing personal politics.

My assessments are based on a strong sense of right and wrong. They ARE my personal opinions, however, derived from 83+ years of life experience. So take them or leave them, as you choose - but don't verbally beat me over the head if you don't agree.

Hopefully, you will bookmark this site, visit frequently, ask questions, give me your feedback, and perhaps submit items and articles that you think might be of interest to others.

When I use them, I will acknowledge the name of the sender and the article's original source, if known. Please include that if you know, in order to give proper credit to the author — a necessary courtesy that too many people overlook when forwarding items on the Internet.
